Types of Skin Cancer - Symptoms and Treatment

Squamous cell carcinoma
Squamous cell carcinoma, or SCC, is a cancer of the outermost cells of the skin. It is the second most common type of skin cancer in the UK. One in five skin cancers (20%) are this type. If it is left untreated for a long time, squamous cell carcinoma can spread to other parts of the body.

Treatment
High-risk tumors are best treated by wide excision (removal of a large margin of normal skin) or Mohs' Surgery. Mohs surgery is a specialized microscopically controlled surgical technique that removes the entire tumor, and only the tumor. It has the highest cure rate, and is the least disfiguring. If used on larger cancers or on a difficult site a dermatologic surgeon or plastic surgeon may also be needed to repair the defect left after excision.

Basal Cell Carcinoma
Basal Cell Carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer. It typically appears as a small raised bump that has a pearly appearance. It is most commonly seen on areas of the skin that have received excessive sun exposure. These cancers may spread to the skin around the cancer but rarely spread to other parts of the body.

Treatment
Treatment depends on the size of the tumor and the general health of the patient. Surgery is usually the treatment used to remove the cancer. There are a number of ways the surgery can be performed:
Electrodessication and Curettage - the cancer is burned and removed with a sharp instrument.
Cryosurgery - the cancer is killed by freezing it.

Malignant melanomas (4 percent of skin cancers) are the most serious type of skin cancer. They often can be treated successfully if caught early but have the potential to be fatal. Melanomas usually begin as a dark brown or black flat spot with irregular borders that later can change shape or color. Malignant melanomas may also grow from a benign mole.

Treatment
Treatment for melanoma begins with the surgical removal of the melanoma and some normal-looking skin around the growth. Removal of the normal-looking skin is known as taking margins, and is done to be sure no melanoma is left behind. Early melanoma limited to the outermost layer of the skin (the epidermis) is known as melanoma in situ (in place), and simple surgical removal produces virtually a 100 percent cure rate.

What is Bone Cancer? It’s Symptoms & Cure

Bone cancer can and does occur within the human skeleton meaning it is possible to have a malignant tumor or tumors in our joints and bones. If a cancer begins first in a bone, the resultant tumor is known as a primary bone cancer. It is possible for a tumor located elsewhere in the body to be the primary cancer and from there; a cancer may spread to the bone. This would be a secondary bone cancer. Most bone cancers occur within bones in the arms and the legs.

It is often easy to discover symptoms as they are represented at first by pain when moving and then through swelling. It should be understood though that pain or swelling in joints or bones is not necessarily a sure sign that a tumor has developed. The problem could well be unrelated to a cancer. But with cancer of the bone, early symptoms may not involve constant pain. In fact at first you may only sense pain at night when resting or through a strong period of activity.

It may take some time for the tumor to grow and only then will the pain become regular, if not constant. A person may not have their pain attended to for weeks or even months [in some cases it can even be years] not realizing the cause of the pain being the beginnings of bone cancer. Once a tumor has developed within the skeletal system, other symptoms may be loss of weight and a feeling of lack of energy.

Brain Cancer - Symptoms & treatment

Brain cancer is also called Glioma or Meningioma. If cancer starts in the brain itself, it is called "primary brain cancer". If cancer starts elsewhere in the body and then moves to the brain, it is called "metastatic brain cancer". A primary brain cancer usually is confined to the central nervous system. Due to uncontrolled tumor growth in the limited space of the skull, death takes place. A metastatic brain cancer is an advanced disease and is related to poor prognosis. Primary brain tumors may be cancerous or noncancerous. All the cancerous brain tumors are malignant and threaten life due to the aggressive and invasive nature. In the United States, there are 15 to 20 cases of brain cancer in 100,000 people.
Brain cancer symptoms
There are about distinct symptoms of brain cancer. These are listed below.
  • vision problems
  • vomiting
  • nausea
  • seizures
  • headaches
  • behavioural problems
  • brain swelling
  • hydrocephalus
  • dizziness
  • hearing problems
  • motor problems
  • memory loss
  • memory problems
  • cognitive problems
  • personality changes
Generally, there are four ways to treat to cancer. They are listed down below:

Killing cancer cells
Destroy the microbes inside the cancer cells
To build an immune system and to let that system cure the cancer
Microzyma/Somatid: By reverting microbes inside the cancerous cells again into a microbe as in "hibernation".

It is caused due to age, race and family history. Little children and men are highly prone to this disease. Also people who are exposed towards harmful radiations and chemicals like formaldehyde, vinyl chloride and acrylonitrile are highly prone to this disease.

Symptoms of stomach cancer

Symptoms of stomach cancer

Growth of carcinogenic cells in stomach leads to cancer of stomach. There are mainly two types of stomach cancer known as intestinal stomach cancer (this type of cancer is common in people of old age) and diffuse type (which is common in people of certain group, surprisingly people in certain geographical area such as Japan, Korea etc. are more prone to stomach cancer than any other place on earth). Most of the sufferers of this disease are people above age 70 and majority of which involve men patients.

Who is at risk?

People who eat less or no vegetables and more preservative added food or junk food are at highest risk of developing this disease. Also people in their old age (people of age group 65 and above) are at high risk. Along with the above specified possible risk groups, people who are suffering or those who had history of from certain types of diseases such as Achlorhydria, Pernicious Anaemia, bacterial infections of stomach (helicobacter pylori). People who smoke are also at high risk of developing stomach cancer. In some cases, it has been witnessed to be hereditary (Although this scenario is very rare, any possibility cannot be denied).

Diagnosis of Stomach Cancer:

There are quite a couple of tests used to confirm stomach cancer in patients, however endoscopy is highly trusted test which varies in complexity based on the situation. Blood sample test and biopsy (samples of cells from the inside lining of the stomach are taken) can also be utilized in order to find out any abnormality. A small robotic tool is used to take pictures of inside of the stomach to find out any abnormal growth which can act as an alarm raiser. Ultrasound scanning also can be used to diagnose stomach cancer. Barium meal (white barium liquid) test also can be used to diagnose this disease in which once the liquid is consumed by the patient, the patient’s stomach is examined using X-rays. Along with the above specified techniques, there are many other screening tests available for diagnosis of stomach cancer such as gastro copy, biopsy and microscopy etc.

What are the symptoms of stomach cancer?

Stomach cancer shows very little or almost no symptoms in its early stage. Occasionally, patient may experience a very light stomach ache. Once the cancer starts growing strong, patient may experience severe stomach ache, loss of weight due to loss of appetite, blood in stool, bloating problem (or bloated feeling) after eating anything, abdominal pain and discomfort, any type of change in bowel habits, Ascites, Jaundice and nausea are few of the symptoms those make life difficult for the patient. With the advancement of time, new techniques are also being invented to confirm the growth of stomach cancer.
